Nearly 20 years ago, I was hired by the Wallingford YMCA as a camp counselor for Camp Ulbrich. Before that, I was a camper myself. Like so many of the children who join us each summer, I learned important lessons here that went far beyond games and activities. I learned how to make friends, try new things, bounce back from challenges, and feel confident being myself—all because of the counselors who took the time to care, listen, and lead by example.

Those experiences stayed with me. As I grew from camper to counselor, and eventually into my current role, I realized how powerful summer camp can be in a child’s life. Camp is where friendships are formed,
independence grows, and kids discover what they’re capable of in a fun, supportive environment.

Today, that same mission guides everything we do. Our staff works every day to create experiences that help children grow—socially, emotionally, and personally. We focus on building strong relationships, encouraging teamwork, and making sure every camper feels safe, supported, and included. Whether it’s through shared laughter, trying something new for the first time, or simply finding a place to belong, our goal is for every child to leave camp with memories and skills that last far beyond the summer.

I can’t wait for another unforgettable summer and the chance to make some new, forever memories!
